After leaving the inspiring lecture by Will Steger at UMD last night, I headed up to Hawk Ridge to enjoy the stars. As I was walking along, I could just see the moon through the trees as it started to rise. It was beautiful! I started trotting to the clearing at the Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory to get a clear shot, but then realized that the moon was rising too fast for me to dawdle. So I started running, with a backpack full of camera gear and tripod! I reached around to pull out the tripod and start getting it set up as I was running to the overlook. Once I arrived, I got everything else out and locked into place and set up for a few long exposure shots. Not too long, because the moon is bright, but not too short, either. The colors were wonderful.
Thank you, moon, for such a gift!
