Duluth had one of the coldest overnights of the year this past weekend, so I made a point to get out early on the coldest morning, to enjoy the sunrise. I was not disappointed! However, I was surprised at how many other photographers were also out in the early, pre-dawn and bone chilling cold. I guess great minds think alike!
This is a fun picture with pancake ice, a faint sundog, and the sunrise, all mixed together with the lake exhaling summer into the -22F morning air:
Pancake ice doesn’t last long when it’s this cold – I’m sure it’ll freeze up into a solid sheet pretty quickly. That is, until the wind and the waves kick up!
